Fianna Fail made the following manifesto promises pre election:

Fianna Fail (FF) has proposed a three point plan for home owners and potential homeowners. The party has said that it will abolish stamp duty for all first time buyers immediately and backdate this concession to April 30.

The party also proposed an increase in the ceiling for mortgage interest relief for first time buyers from €8,000 to €10,000 for single people and from €16,000 to €20,000 for couples or widowed people.

FF has said that this change will be introduced in Budget 2008. In a bold move, the party also announced plans to backdate this increase for seven years. The party’s third measure was its plan to keep the mortgage interest relief at 20 per cent for all home owners.

The stamp duty point is being addressed but does anyone know about the interest relief changes and 7 year back date promise being enacted ?

Thanks.
