Ok, so I got a response after the complaint was submitted.
It appears that our account was 're-aligned' after the last ECB rate reduction.
To avoid having to make a partial payment to clear the account after the final full payment in Sep 28, they spread the shortfall over the remaining term.
We did make some lump sum payments over the previous 12 months to reduce the term and the re-alignment should have been done after the first of these and for each following.
They are sending a goodwill payment out to us for the inconvenience and getting the runaround.
