Hello
My renewal is up pn 1st February.

Im currently with Laya Simply Connect for myself and my wife.

No kids.

Mid 40s and in good general health.

Id be happy to spend and extra 100 euro or so to get better cover or is staying with the current plan as good a policy?

Many thanks

Hi Zipiter,

Alternative options worth considering;
Cheaper option;
1. Laya Inspire plan; price 1140pa; all public, private and 3 hi-tech hospitals covered, private excess 150 per admission and day case excess
50 euro per procedure. Good day to day cover included, refund of 50% for consultant visits, gp, dental etc.
NOTE: this plan has 80% cover for hip and knee replacement surgery and cataract eye surgery, but if you have this type of surgery done in the
Blackrock Clinic, there is no charge. This hospital does not pass the 20% shortfall(2k or 3k) onto the patient. Other private hospitals will charge
the shortfall charge to the patient.

2. Laya Simply Connect; price 1330pa; same hospital cover as Simply Connect but there is a capped excess of 150 x 1 per year for all
private admissions. The day to day cover has a max refund per year of 1000 compared to 500 with Simply Connect.

3. Laya Simplicity plan; price 1370pa; this plan has full cover for a private room in a private hospital. The private excess is capped at 100 x 2
per year for all private hospital admissions.

Unless you want a cheaper plan(option 1), or need more day to day cover (option 2) or prefer full cover for a private room in a private hospital(option 3)
then Simply Connect would be best suited at the moment.

Thank you so much Snowyb.
Would other providers offer a better policy is Laya the best option?

You're such an asset to this forum.

Other providers like VHI would have 80% orthopaedic cover (hip and knee replacement surgery in private hospitals) or a 2000 co payment for
the same surgery with Irish Life. Again if you choose Blackrock Clinic for surgery, the extra charge is waived or not passed onto the patient.

1. VHI Company Plan Plus Level 1.3; price 1193pa; all public, private and 3 hi-tech hospitals covered, private or hi-tech excess 150 per admission,
day case excess 50 per procedure. 80% cover for orthopaedic surgery - hip and knee replacement. If you choose Blackrock Clinic for ortho surgery,
there is no 20% shortfall to pay as Blackrock Clinic don't pass shortfalls onto the patient. Good day to day cover included, 50% refund for consultant visits, gp, etc.

2. VHI PMI 07 10 plan; price 1240pa; all public, private and 3 hi-tech hospitals covered, private or hi-tech excess capped at 150 x 1 max
per year for all admissions, day case excess 50 per procedure. 80% orthopaedic cover (hip and knee replacement) but if you choose Blackrock
Clinic for surgery, there is no charge, just the 150 excess on admission. Good day to day cover included, 50% refund for consultant visits, gp, etc.

3 Irish Life 4D Health 2 plan; price 1315pa; all public, private and 3 hi-tech hospitals covered; private or hi-tech excess capped at 150 per admission
and 75 per day case procedure. For orthopaedic surgery(hip and knee replacement), there is a 2000 co-payment per surgery. If you choose
Blackrock Clinic for this surgery, the 2000 is waived. Good day to day cover included, 50% refund for gp, consultants, etc.

Regarding Laya Inspire Plan in previous post, under hi-tech hospital cover heading 'other than cardiac and special' there is a 500 nightly charge in Mater Private. Blackrock Clinic are waiving this charge but I don't know if Mater Private would do the same. If Mater Private is an important hospital, then
another plan would be a safer option. I can't edit previous post to highlight this.
Alternative option to Inspire plan is the following Inspire Plus plan, details as follows;

4. Laya Inspire Plus plan; price 1286pa; all public, private and 3 hi-tech hospitals covered; private excess capped at 150 x 1 max per year for all
admissions, day case excess 50 per procedure. 80% cover for orthopaedic hip and knee replacement surgery in private/hi-tech hospitals, which
is fully covered in Blackrock Clinic. Other private hospitals would charge the 20% shortfall of 2k - 3k per surgery. Good day to day cover included,
50% refund for gp, consultants etc upto a max of 4000 per year.

All the above are whats available at the moment, it may turn out that Simply Connect is still best option, depending on your needs.
With a renewal date of 1 Feb 2020, you have upto 14th Feb to choose a plan or change your mind.
