Insurance for apartment complex?

I'm trying to find information regarding the type of insurance needed for apartment owners/renters. I know home contents insurance covers damage to your own, but what insurance is needed to cover you for accidental damage from your place to another apartment? The block insurance for the complex does not cover this. Thanks

Check your home contents policy.

A lot of home contents insurance policies include liability cover, protecting you if a visitor is injured on your property or if you accidentally cause damage to someone else's property.

But if your policy doesn't cover that, is there a specific type of insurance for this?

I've just checked with mine and they cover in a normal house scenario but not an apartment in a complex. They said it is covered under the block insurance, but the excess in ours is thousands. Are there specific providers that insure this type of scenario where you could take out personal insurance?

Anything useful here?

They said it is covered under the block insurance,
A leak from an appliance inside your apartment is very unlikely to be covered by a block insurance policy. Did they explain what their public liability cover does include?

If you don't get a satisfactory answer, move providers.

Yes and no. There has been a few mentions in the links there about insurance to cover the excess, but they seem to apply to a house as opposed to an apartment in a complex.

The block policy probably covers the liabilities of the management company and or the effective owners of the development.
Practically, this would probably relate to common parts of the premises not owned by apartment owners.

A separate and distinct policy for individual apartment owners and or tenants would probably cover their liabilities as occupiers as far as liability claims go. The same policy would probably cover an individual apartment for the perils you would expect with a household policy.
However, you would need to be careful that the policy covers all of the apartment in terms of contents and any elements of the apartment that might be regarded as part of the building. e.g. the bursting or over flowing of a water heater located within the apartment.

Always be sure that the policy wording covers your needs and circumstances. If in doubt get it clarified by the underwriters and in writing.

As one insurance claims person explained a few points to me a few years ago ;

1. Contents would include items that you would take with you if moving house.

2. Buildings would refer to items that you would not be taking with you if moving house.

3. Very few liability claims arise from ownership of property.

4. Most liability claims arise against occupiers of property.
