Inherited a home, it is currently unoccupied. Need to get insurance, is there a big difference between the cost of occupied and unoccupied home insurance?

yes.

the reason insurers will give and it is hard to disagree, is that there is a higher risk of something happening an unoccupied house. Some insurers will only give fire cover and will insist on certain precautions being taken. I think that your best bet woudl beto approach either the current insurer of the house or your own insurers.

I am currently looking at quotes for an unoccupied house and the premium difference over and above an occupied house is between €150 to €200 from most brokers. Some brokers wouldn't even quote me for the unoccupied house.

Premium loading tends to be 50% - 100% on standard rates for an unoccupied property. And yes, because of the level of risk involved most insurers wont do it!
