Anyone know of a company that will handle this type of insurance. I'm looking for insurance bond in the case of a house being purchased where the original title deeds are lost and have been reconstituted. Basically, it's insurance against some third party appearing at a later date with the original title deeds. I emailed Insurance Ireland and they gave me the name of a broker that they thought covered it but when I contacted them they said they didn't and couldn't tell me who did?

Your solicitor should know who to speak with.

When we bought our home, the deeds turned out to be lost. I googled "title insurance" and a place outside of Dublin (possibly the Midlands) came up.

It would have equated to around €1,000 per €250,000 from memory.

My solicitor ended up going to a UK based specialist provider (where I understand the market is more developed). It was around €300 per €250k.

Thanks for that. Would you happen to know the name of UK based provider? Also, if you were the house purchaser, why did you have to source the insurance bond? Surely that was the responsibility of the seller?

Have a look at Titlesolv, they are a company in Dublin, details set out below:

T: +353 (01) 6338872; W: www.titlesolv.com
A. Titlesolv, Hannover Re, 4 Custom House Plaza, IFSC, Dublin 1

It would be the responsibility of the vendor to have the title in order, and obtain title insurance, if it is needed. However, if the vendor is not under pressure to sell, they may tell you to take it or leave it, and then you as the purchaser might have to look at taking out the insurance yourself.
