Hi

My ancient gas fired back-boiler (in front room) is dead and I'm looking at replacement heating system but as I've never been a fan of gas central heating I'm thinking about an oil burner. It would need to run 6 rads in a standard sized 3 bed bungalow. Has anyone experience of doing this and can advise on the approximate costs. Would the OFCH need to go inside the back-boiler space in the living room "hearth" or can it be installed anywhere?

It would be far cheaper to stick with gas and install a conventional wall hung gas boiler and re-route pipework to suit.

I dont think you can install an oil boiler in a hearth/fireplace, unless you go for some sort of oil stove.
Plus, you will have to get an oil tank, fill it with oil and secure it so that nobody steals it in you.
You will run out of oil some cold winter night, take 2 days to get a refill and then you will discover that your oil boiler is air-locked.

As Shane said - buy yourself a decent gas boiler!
