Informal work - declaring expense payments

I'm currently out of work and on job seekers allowance but do some informal care work for a family member.

I don't get paid for this work but i keep a record of all my travel expenses. The family member reimburses my expenses every month at a rate of £0.40p per mile.

Should i declare this to the tax office?

Due family politics i am keen to ensure that i do everything legally!
