Independent water test

Hi

We have our own well and live in a rural area in Westmeath. We are looking into getting a water softener as the water has a lot of lime and iron in it but I would like to get the well water independently tested before I go letting somebody convince me the water is carcinogenic/radioactive etc!!! Does anyone know who would do this impartially?

Thanks

Dara

Not sure where in Westmeath you are- but Oldcastle laboratories in Oldcastle will actually come and collect the sample, otherwise you will have to find a sterile container to put it in. It is not particularly chap but an impartial report could indeed pay itself back very quickly.

When you mean independant do you mean private or public service lab? Have you contact Westmeath Co.Council? http://www.westmeathcoco.ie/en/servicesa-z/waterservices/

The Co.Council should be able to test it for standard chemical and microbiological parameters within the drinking water regulations or at least point you in the right direction of an independant lab eg Public Analyst. Either way it might cost. Would be wary of private labs.

Btw the councils don't accept samples unless they collect it themselves. Reasoning behind it as that, there is no loss of chain of command and thus no possiblity of interfering or contamination.
