Hi,

I am hoping someone can explain the following to me. I arrived home in Sept after 7 years abroad and started work week after arriving back.

I was initially on emergency tax then got refunded a lot of that in November so December was my first normal month. However there has been a big income tax differential between December and January with January being nearly 75% more. I am not sure why this has happened, dos anyone know the reason? Or should I be contacting revenue or the company HR?

Thanks in advance

Split year relief. Basically last year you had full years tax credit, and band, that you used over 4 months. This year it's spread out over 12. That'd have a significant impact an your net pay.

There are lots of online calculators to check your net pay. I use http://services.deloitte.ie/tc/

If that doesn't explain, check your tax credits to make sure you have them all.

Thanks RedOnion, based on the tax calculator provided it does look like I have a query to make as the tax deduction this month was significantly higher than suggested by the calculator.
