I inherited some furniture and other personal property from a USA domiciled parent. I am a USA citizen, resident in Ireland for the last 15 years, but claim USA domicile. I wish to bring this property to Ireland. The executors valued the property nominally for state tax purposes. As the estate admin is still not finalized, much to my displeasure, I have had to hold the property in expensive storage for the last four years. I was told initially by a moving company that I would not be able to get this property through Irish customs unless I could certify that all USA taxes have been paid. This seems to be confirmed by revenue guidelines. This has been a problem for me. Has anyone any experience of such a situation?
