Most lenders now supply the ICB with info on your loans and payment records and perform the check as a matter of course.
If you have missed payments or any other matters this does not necessarily mean you wont get a loan. Particularly if there is a good explanation for it.
The understanding is that the record 'falls' off after 5 years.
You could always pay the ICB to give you your record to see if it is accurate.
