My tenants have recently lost their jobs and have applied through the local Community Welfare Oficer for HSE Rent Supplement, does anyone know how much this is or how it is calculated? The tenants or the HSE have not been to forthcoming with information on this.. thanks

You need to tell us where the property is, what sort of tenants you have (married with kids or what?) as the max rates are different around the country.

Ok, thanks, property in north county Dublin, tenants married with one child.

The above figure is incorrect. The Maximum rent limit for a couple with 1 child is €1000 per month, which means that if the rent exceeds that amount, no supplement is payable (but see last paragraph). This is not the maximum amount payable as Rent Supplement. There is a minimum contribution which the tenant must make of €18 per week, and depending on income, there could be additional contributions required by the tenant.

However, if the tenants have recently become unemployed, the maximum rent limit may not be applied - there is an exception made for persons who could afford their rent at the start of a tenancy and have to apply due to changed circumstances.

Thanks that is the circumstances that my tenants were in, they were both working at the start of the tenancy but have both lost their jobs in the last 4 weeks.
