How to reply to or quote a post

To reply to a post, you just start typing in box below the post and then press Post Reply.

But let's say that you want to quote a part of a post.

1 Today is Monday
2 Tomorrow is Tuesday
3. The following day is Wednesday

Highlight the bit you want to quote

And hit Reply and Quote button and you will get what appears in the next post.
 
If you want to refer to a particular post without quoting it, don't say "You said in post number 2 above" but
Right click on the no. 2 as follows:

Then the following menu will show up...

Click on Copy link address
This copies the link to that specific post into your clipboard.

Then paste it into the post

Clicking on this will bring the user to Post no.2 although it does look as if it brings you to the start of the thread.

Aha! This worked - is this a new feature coming through the system or did you change the site behaviour? It makes perfect sense now.

You mean linking to a specific post in a thread by copying the URL referenced by the "#<post-number>" link at the top right of posts?
That feature has always been there on the current (XenForo) incarnation of Askaboutmoney.

On my ipad when I hoover over the bit I want to quote I get the

'reply and quote' but at the same time I also get the other pop up to

'copy/find selection/look up' on top, which prevents me replying as I cannot get to it

I have same issue sometimes on mobile (android, chrome) where the two popups get in each other's way.

Yes that's the issue, but I've just found a solution, I hoovered over your post on my ipad to take a photo with my phone to put up on here, and by accident I hit the top button, translate, which popped up to the left, and then I could hit the 'reply and quote'.

Here's the error

Ironically since i hit the wrong button the problem seems to have gone away and now the two pop ups are separate - how weird is that !
