How to remove sticky residue from labels

I recently bought a cheap sports bottle from a supermaket and after taking the label off (it had to go, it was really really gaudy) I have been left with a big sticky section that simply won't shift.

I have tried soaking it in soapy water overnight and even going at it with a scouring pad, but its not lifting.

Any ideas?

Nail polish remover will do the trick, but I'm not sure if it will damage the surface so try it on something similar that you can discard if the worst happens

Spray on Pledge or Mr. Sheehan quite heavily, leave for 2 mins then wipe off.

Any suggestions for how to remove the sticky residue from a polo shirt? It's been through the wash a few times with no effect. I tried a toilet wipe, which did a partial job, but not complete.

Have you tried the old brown paper bag/grease proof paper + iron routine?

It's more for greasy substances though really, but could work.
