How to locate a deceased family member's life policy

Is there a place to go to find the policy for a deceased relative? They told me they had one for funeral expenses but nothing has turned up in there affairs. They did have one but how do I find it?

Write to all the companies, that's what I had to do but that was years ago. Don't know if there is any sort of central register, I don't think there is. Any sign of payments coming out of a bank account?

No. Nothing. Its an old one and I thought it would be written down. In fact I'm surprised it wasn't. Thank you for the advice. I'll plough on

Premium book from when they were collected door-to-door in cash, bank statements showing direct debits, CU book for members' policies?

Is it possible that it was just an insurance policy that came along with being a credit union member?

1. Trawl through some old bank statements. (Your local friendly bank might be of help where electronic records are kept for years) Don't forget Visa Card statements.
2. Biscuit tins full of personal papers under beds are another source.
3. Ask the best friends of the deceased if the matter was ever discussed.
