How to handle the interview

Hi,

I am currently looking and changing jobs and I need some advice re the interview. I am currently working as a manager with a large company and the primary reason for me looking to change is down to the management. The middle management have very little or no experience whatsoever which is extremely frustrating as this was completely different to what was sold to me when I took the job. I have plenty of management experience myself and cannot tolerate the farce of a situation that greets me on a daily basis.
My problem is that the company that is interviewing me know the circumstances that I have to work in. One or two previous colleagues have informed them of the structure within the organisation. One of the questions they will ask me is why I am leaving and I don’t know what to say. I can’t inform them of the problems as I don’t want to be seen as bad mouthing but has anyone any ideas???

I would have expected a senior manager to be have the wherewithal to put some positive spin on the situation while not lying about it.

I believe the token answer to why you are leaving is often "seeking new challenges", particularly if you are in a management position.

The level of the debacle is the laughable bit! It’s hard to put spin on a situation that should be confidential but isn’t. Help is what I require not a good laugh!

Tell them you are at odds with the structural setup of management decision making in your current company, but, beyond that, you are bound by loyalty to your current employers not to bad-mouth them. If they want to hear more, they should give you the job.

to be honest - I wouldn't go into such detail at interview.
The reason you are leaving the job is that you want to be challenged and learn - your current role has ceaced to offer you the same, hense why you are job hunting..

Thank you PinkyBear, you're right my current position is not meeting my needs, and I think I will go along this line of reasoning, and highlight what attracts me to the competitor co. It therefore allows me to keep my answer professional and honest
 
How long are you in the current role........seeking new challenge, broader exposure, etc should work if you have stayed in the current role for a while. I hire people all the time and tend to be tougher on people if it looks like they are jumpng ship very often. So you are right to be prepared if that is the case
