Hello,

I am in a messy financial situation due to separation and disorganized finances.

Can anyone tell me how to go about finding a decent financial advisor who can handle separations and property asset advice in particular to help me get straightened out before things become legal?

I don't want to pick a name out of the phonebook.

I appreciate any help on this.

You could try Askaboutmoney.com

If the financial problem exists - it has been advised about on here.

Sorry, this is Ask about money in case you forgot.

I'd say you might be best finding a half decent solicitor, who would be well versed in separations also could probably offer investment opinions. For something as serious you might consider using a professional who knows his business and the guts of yours.

Thanks for being so helpful mercman, much appreciated. Not sure a solicitor can deal with possibly complex tax liability and property issues, but maybe I am wrong. I had hoped for a pointer on how to find someone possibly via a professional register without paying a solicitor for a consultation first. Thanks again mercman.

It really depends on the quality of the solicitor you use and the size of their practice. Personally, I do not think views on a public forum can be used in the case of a separation. Using an opinion without an indemnity, could be very sore and expensive.

Hi Adastra and welcome to AAM!

Ive expanded your title somewhat to more fully reflect your excellent question.

Ive broken your post up into paragraphs in order to highlight your queston.

On AAM we allways advise people to engage the appropriate independant professional advisor and not to rely (to any extent) on public boards such as aam ,boards.ie etc.

Having said that I dont have an answer to your question but hopefully some one here might be able to point you in the right direction.

Thanks for the improvements on my post and for the warm welcome.

This is what I would like to do. Finding the appropriate independent advisor (for a small fish without major investments or business interests) is exactly the problem. I am surprised that there seems to be no register or professional body to go through. If I wanted a decent plumber or surgeon it would be hell of a lot easier.
