how to fix a creaking stairs

Hi,

I have removed the carpet off the stairs in order to fix the creaking sound. its a chipboard stairs I screwed down through the edges quite well but its still creaking. There is no access from underneath - any ideas would be appreciated.

Are you sure the stairs is "chipboard"? I think you probably mean MDF, the stair treads and risers being made of this and the strings being made of solid wood. It's difficult to make effective repairs in this case without access to the underside. It's usual to tap in loose wedges/ extra wedges and use a combination of glue and screws to tighten up any loose joints. Failing access to the underisde you can try to use glue (perhaps one of those speciality glues like "Chair Doctor"), injecting it into open joints.
 
Putting talcum powder down any gaps in the treads may help with minor creaks but more significant ones need the sort of approach mentioned by Carpenter. If you Google/search I'm sure that you'll find lots of tips on dealing with all manner of stair problems.
