How to find out what date I finished work in the UK

Hoping someone can give me advice on how to find out what date I finished work in the UK. I have rang HMRC and they told me to do a Subject Access Request but that has not given me an answer as apparently Employers don't have to tell the HMRC when employees finish work.

Is there any other way of finding out as I have been given the go ahead to pay Voluntary Contributions at Class 3 but they want to know what date I finished work to apply to pay at Class 2.

Thanks in advance

Do you really need the precise date? Surely you have some idea or some documentary evidence of, say, the year in which you ceased working there? In which case you could, if necessary, just estimate the date within that year on which you ceased working there?

Thanks for your reply Clubman. My P.45 only gives the Tax Year and i gave them my estimate and I will just have to hope they will accept that.

I thought that a P45 used to detail employment dates for the relevant year, but I guess not? I'd just try to give them the best estimate of when, during the relevant year, the last UK employment finished and clarify any doubts. I think that they're fairly pragmatic about such issues.

I think I was only able to give them a month, and later I realised that was wrong but it didn’t seem to matter

I don't think it has to be exact but close enough. But ensure the date you started work in Ireland was very close to your arrival.

Hi All

I got Class 2 and have paid the amount requested but I was wonderiing will Barclays Bank take a charge out of the money I paid which would mean the amount I sent would not fully cover the total HMRC have asked for?

Thanks in advance

I'd be surprised if that happened. Is your Barclay's account a sterling account?
I paid my class 2 by electronic transfer from a sterling, UK Bank account (not Barclays). The full amount was paid. If you have internet access to your Barclay's A/C you should be easily able to check.
If there are bank charges they'd be more likely a separate deduction.

Thanks for your reply getting on. I paid in sterling from my Irish Bank of Ireland Account into the HMRC Account at Barclays Bank, what i mean't was does Barclays Bank take a charge out of what I paid to receive it into the HMRC Account?

Ah OK. Barclay's is HMRC's bank.
Nothing will be taken from the amount you sent the HMRC to cover Bank charges.
Same as when someone sends you money, you see the correct amount credited to your account.
(HMRC themselves pay the bank charges on their account just like you do on yours)

EDIT: Sorry, I just looked it up and the above might NOT always be true.
Best to check with Bank Of Ireland.
