how to clean cast iron fire surround

My lovely silver polished finish fire surround was cleaned by my helpful child using kitchen spray. This resulted in instant rust and i wad wondering if anyone can advise a product or method to restore its previous finish.

Hi, I had the same problem with rust on my fire surround, I was told by the guy in the fireplace shop to spray WD40 onto the sliver and give it a good polish as this would take of the rust, which I did - It gave more of a shine to it than taking the rust off so I used a small bit of steel wool on it very gently and some of the rust came off for me - I hope this helps.
