how to calculate loss on sale of bank shares

hi I have a number of bank shares that I received over the years during my employment...foolishly I did not sell them.. I want to sell them now to offset a future gain. how on earth can I calculate the loss as the shares have been subject to rights issues and 7 shares given for every 1 share etc. would appreciate help and advice please
 
You'll have to post more specific info than that if you want people to assist...

Your OP implies that you are going to sell ALL of the shares, is this the case? If so, calculating your loss is quite easy, it's whatever you get for them minus whatever you paid for them (or their market value if you received them at below market value and paid tax on the difference)! It only becomes complicated if you're not selling all your shares.
