Got some electrical work done recently (north-west of country),

Each job was about between €30-€50, for more complicated bits of work it went up to €80. (I have to say I thought this was very dear though!)

At those rates, on the basis of your list, I'd guess it would cost about €400-€450 (that's with your supplying the bed lights, spotlights and basic light).

I'd be interested to hear how much you get it for.

Without seeing the exact layout of the house or knowing the height of the ceilings involved its difficult to price exactly but ball park approx €650 -€800. RECORD id love to meet any qualified electrician that would fit anything for €30 -€50

As someone who is unemployed in the electrical industry I would be happy to to get work for €30/40 per hour

Why would you think a complicated piece of electrical work is expensive at 80 euro?

Sorry for the confusion Liamb but i thought RECORD said each JOB for between €30 and €50 and not an per hour.I MAY STAND CORRECTED BUT I thought the std price to fit a socket by RECI was €110

Wifelist I took it as per hour maybe I was wrong about that put not so sure.
Its been almost 15 years since I worked on the tools so I am out of touch with pricing most of the electrical work I would be involved in now is safety surveying and test and inspection.

As someone EMPLOYED in the industry at the moment i think a lot of sparks would do the work for €25 or less an hour , unless of course you live in dublin where it will cost you more for the skills and knowhow the dublin sparks have....As for RECI they dont care what you charge as long as they get regular cash injections for cert etc...

Well I'm a dub myself, but pray tell us more about this special skill and knowhow that Dublin sparks have. As far as I know our electricity in the capital is the same as everyone else's. And I'd say country sparks have skills that Dublin ones don't, such as wiring up electric gates, installing spotlights in everyone's garden etc etc. :)

Well i fitted a kitchen in Darndale just before XMAS ,the woman got her own electrician and i kid you not but to supply and fit six down lighters and two dimmer switches and move (only not wire up) a six sq cable for the oven about ten feet he charged her €1850 YES I did write €1850

My God €1850, how many hours work was involved? maybe I should go back on the tools again

HE was their for a day and a half because he held me up, but yes thats all he did .and i said to her exactly what you just said.

That is a complete scandle!

IM thinking the cost of the work will be somewhere around the 600-800 mark,

Lol, nothin special there i'm afraid, spotlights and gates are basic.. Once you're a qualified electrician witha few years experience then nothing should be a problem.. That 1850 euro price there is scandalous, just another example of rip off Ireland..
