How much discount for delay with doors?

We built our house and moved in last August. At the time we ordered stairs and 19 doors from a timber frame company to be supplied + fitted. They fitted the stairs and 15 of the doors last Setember. After fitting 15 of the doors we picked, they then discovered they hadn't any more in their stock.

To make a long story short, they contacted the supplier who said they never remeber providing the type of door we had and they would have to order 4 more specifically from the manufacturer in Indonesia! 7 months later after alot of failed promises and numerous phone calls we got the 4 last doors, which then turned out to be different from the originals because they were'nt measured correctly by the timber fram comp to order them. They then re-ordered a 2nd time and we're told we'll have them by the end of this month which will be mean we'll have waited 11 months for all the doors.

I paid for the stairs as there was no issue with the supply fitting of them. I've told them I want a discount for the hassle + delays and they've offered a discount of €600, which I'm not happy with.

Just wondering what people feel would be a reasonable discount given the above?

I feel if I had waited 11 months and now ordered doors I could them at a considerably lower price now vs. what they are charging me.

Is the remedy for this not covered in the Building Contract?

What would you be happy with? What do you think is reasonable in the circumstances? What are your actual losses and how highly do you value the "hassle-factor"?
 
We built by direct labour, so we are dealing directly with the door company.
 
My losses are my time, financial loss - cost of doors then vs. what I could get them for now, this would depend on the price I could get doors from if I shopped around, but would no doubt be less than what they were 1 yr ago, and plenty of 'hassle factor' as I would really prefer nOt to spend my time making phone call's chasing a company who I expect at very least keep me informed when their will be delay's to a reasnoble supply turn around times
 
I don't know, but that's what I'm asking for people's view on. Suppose the greater the better really!

Well do you not have a contract with them to supply and penalties in it for late supply, non supply or supply of defective goods?
 
i think the €600 is a reasonable amount to compensate, will you be getting any more products from them in the future, if so ask them for a continuous discount i.e 10% they will be sure to look after you for being a loyal customer even after all the hassle
 

€600 is more than fair if you feel hard done by ask him to pay for the phone calls you've made to him.
 
If I owned the timber frame company and asked a customer to wait 11 months for even 1 door don't mind 4 doors I would be too embarrassed to ask for payment for them. If they were replacement doors in an established home you would at least have had a door to close. In a new build and going into winter season I can just imagine how difficult it must have been for you.....loss of heat and depending on the room maybe loss of privacy. I think they should give you the four doors free with a big box of chocolates for yourself.

You wouldn't be in business very long operating a 100% discount!
 
would it not be helpful if you told the cost of each door, 600 may be reasonable if doors were 150 each, which would be the 4 doors free, as you have received 1 out of 19 and would seem reasonable, whereas if doors were 500 each then seems lousy.

The cost now v's then is not relevant, and don't think the cost of the 4 doors then and now would be 600, but if you give cost of the doors then would be easier to determine whether ofer is reasonable.
