Best Buy How good are BMW Plug-in Hybrid cars?

Also is it possible to just plug in the fast charger to a socket at home? Or does it need a different wiring etc?

All hybrid cars as operated are useless. The worst of them produce between 2.5 to 3 times the pollution of an ICE. Not the cars' fault, it's the drivers' who get the cars to save BIK, motor-tax, etc. and they never let them near a charge point.

Have you done any on-line research like perhaps typing "BMW hybrid car review" into you favourite search engine (electric powered hopefully !!!) :)

Obviously this is nonsense. They are not all useless. There are many people who use them as intended and reduce their tailpipe emissions.

The point he was making is that lots of people buy them as company cars to reduce the BIK and then never bother charging them. Most of the second hand 5-series of this type are dumped from the UK.

Have you a source for this?

I've seen one such study specifically relating to UK fleet cars, which were purchased for the reasons you've stated, the people running these vehicles usually don't have to pay for fuel and may not have had home chargers installed.

Most PHEVs would be plugged in overnight so you're getting most of your typical daily AVERAGE mileage on the battery alone, with the flexibility to undertake longer journeys if needed.

@OP:
You can't plug a "fast charger" into a socket at home. You can however charge the car via a 3-pin plug, using a slow "granny" charger, this would normally take 4+ hours for a phev and give maybe 30-50km of range. These place high demand on your socket so you would want to have these checked by an electrician before regular use. This is seperate to getting a home charger installed, which will charge at 4-5 times this rate (which isn't a big deal for a phev but if you plan on moving to an EV at some stage in the future you should get one installed if you can avail of the grant).

Thanks all. I dropped the plan for a plugin hybrid ! It doesnt make any sense when it comes to Value for Money.

I get that but when someone is genuinely asking for information why use the phrase "All hybrids ...."? It's not correct and lots of people have positive experiences with Hybrids.
