It seems that in most things I read it is recommended that you buy a mix of bonds and stocks along with other asset classes - so I have a couple of queries on bonds :

How do you buy and sell bonds ?

Does stamp duty apply ?

Does capital gains tax apply ?

If you buy a bond do you need to hold onto it for the period of the bond ?

I also found this link which may be useful for some people [broken link removed] which suggests asset allocations depending on your age and circumstances

thanks

This has been discussed before - do a search. Bottom line is that because of the tax situation, buying bonds doesn't make sense for the Irish individual.

Unless you are buying in the €100,000 's you are better of buying bond ETF's.

These are ETF's shares constructed around bond portfolio's
