how do i know if I have run out of oil or my boiler is faulty

Hi

I have no heating this morning. The level on the tank shows it to be half full but it was like this before the cold spell (dh checked it) I can't get the button on it to press so don't know what the level is. The burner is still making a noise but not firing more like something ticking over. If I have run out of oil will it do this? THanks

Also, you should check the oil level using an old fashioned dip stick - a broom handle.

Just stick it into the oil tank and see if it is covered in oil.

when you say, its ticking over, does it lockout (red button lights) or just run on and on, but not firing or heat?

if so, its either a photocell, solenoid or control box failure
