House insurance claim.

Hi,

Wondering if anyone can help. This evening I broke a plate on our kitchen tiles and 15 mins later the oven door (free standing) just shattered into pieces. I'm assuming a splinter from the plate cracked a small part of the oven glass. This may not be the case but it's the only thing I can think of. I'm wondering can I claim for a new oven on my house insurance or will they tell me just to get a new door. It's 8 years old and I'm afraid if I have to get a new bottom door it won't match the top oven door.

Any advice on what/how to go about this.

Minnie.

Check the terms & conditions of your insurance policy. If you have accidental damage then you may be able to claim. But also check your excess since it could be anything from €100-€1000 on many policies. Also check what the impact of claiming might be on future renewal premiums. Often, unless the damage is extensive/expensive, it's not worth claiming even if it's possible.
