Hospital "Go Bag"

If they have dentures include a labelled box for them to be stored in. My dads got lost when they cleared his room while he was in surgery. Hard to recover from surgery when you can’t eat! And replacement entailed a few dentist visits and a long delay*. Next time he’s in hospital I’m putting an AirTag in his bag and I’m gonna to try to supervise any packing if there is a room movement.

*the hospital replaced the dentures, we had to use their dentist (Blackrock clinic)
 
Having spent two weeks in Beaumont last year, keep it down to essentials. They move you every few days and packing up is not much fun when you're not well. Don't be the person who needs a team of sherpas to help move.

On one occasion, this mad looking assistant, landed at my bed and immediately started putting stuff into my bags telling me I was to move immediately.

Took a bit of effort but I chased her off,started packing up and then spent 4 hours sitting on the bed before a porter arrived to move me via wheelchair to another ward. Its a real case of hurry up and wait.

Think in total moved 5 or 6 times.
 
Regarding footwear - definitely not sliders. Someone else mentioned bringing your regular shoes - which is a good idea as long as they're not high heels or flip flops! Hospitals often provide non slip socks. But any flat footwear that is fastened on (velcro straps or laces) is fine. Most slippers aren't suitable, but ones with a wide velcro strap are good.
I think we're all assuming the patient is a mature adult.....

I think it will vary depending on the person / age / mobility etc.

I certainly wouldn't want to wear my outdoor shoes in the shower!

But all good points to consider.
 
Don’t forget iPad + charger + earphones. Two books for a start. Large soft towel. Toblerone or four?
 
Those backless slippers are banned in some hospitals. Apparently, they lend themselves to falls.
 
Hip flask (full)

As someone mentioned above - a small fan is essential. Lidl had some small rechargeable fans recently and they were decent.

A small chill bag to keep drinks cold.
