My partner and I are going to build a new house soon and are going the direct labour route (gulp!) and I was just wondering about homebond..how does it work the advantages of being 'registered' with etc.
Should I ask all our potential builders if they are registered with homebond?! Sorry I'am not very 'with it' when it comes to anything building........
 
Good love you ... we have just almost finished a build which turned into a self build because a certain Dublin builder with the name of Norse people of old took off leaving us high and dry! Be very very careful who you involve in your build get several recommendations for everyone you employ. As I understand it, to benefit from Homebond, you might need a main contractor who has paid them to be a member. I haven't heard of anyone getting the cover in doing a self build.
 
dp you know anything about what you have to do to complete the planning process ?

the main contractor needs to be registered with HOMEBOND in order to get homebond insurance...

as you are building by direct labour, then by definition you dont have a main contractor there you cant register it.
 
No..sorry, our site came with planning. Didn't have anything to do with it. Hopefully we build ...and thats it!? lol Why not ask your architect? Ours has been very helpful so far, despite some silly questions we've put to him!
Buying a house is sooo much easier, and we've not started building yet! :(

Have a look at premier guarantee which is similar to Homebond but has better coverage. Available through Coyle Hamilton in Ireland they do have a tailoured package for self builders
