Is it possible to get a granny flat which is detached from our primary residence covered under the same home insurance policy or does it require a separate policy. We have a 2 bed apartment on our site for which we will look to use as an Airbnb residence. My renewal is up and looking for options now to include the apartment.

Don't have an answer to this but interested in the answers..have a granny flat like yours detached from main house ,considering using it for air b nb ..air b n b do have insurance but whether it's sufficient is the question ..main thing id be looking for is 3rd party liability, not as worried about damage to the granny flat itself as it's kitted out fairly cheaply anyway .

Generally, granny flats here can't be detached from the main dwelling. it is also a breach of planning law to let out a granny flat on a long or short term basis. If you have a separate apartment with full planning, (for AirBnB it would need to be authorised as a short term let), then it is a separate building and will need it's own buildings, contents & liability cover.
