am reviewing cover with AA Insurance as premium has increased which sthey say due to increased claims. Contents is 50K and any high risk item is restricted to 40% of this sum. We have one item of jewellery valued at 10k which is never taken out of house. Is it necessary then to have this as a specified all risk item

On the basis that the item of jewellery is not going to be taken from the house then there is no need to include under All Risks as well as Contents.

Make sure :
  • your contents sum insured is sufficient to take the value of the item of jewellery into account.
  • you have accidental damage cover under your contents section
  • you advise your insurer that you have a high value item under contents - they may require a valuation to insure it to its full value
