A friend of mine is looking to buy a holiday home/apt in a sunny location in europe, he is looking for a 3 bed if possible with a budget of 120k-150k. He is not looking for a property that he can rent as he intends to use it quite a bit himself but would like to know that what he is buying is worth the money. I suggested looking into the area around Lisbon in portugal. I also suggested that he stay away from sunny beach due to the reports i have read on this site

Any suggestions would be welcome as he is still at the initial stages. He has received a couple brochures from overseas property companies, can anyone recommend any of these that do not overdo the 'hard' sell

Only advise I'd offer is to make sure that there is good access (flights) and the local airport is not just served (from here) by Ryan Air.

Consider local taxes:

Even if not renting the property you must consider local wealth taxes, wether their is an imputed rent for non residents eg Spain, and all inheritance taxes.
