Hit by uninsured driver, what to do?

i was involved in an accident this evening with an uninsured driver. They admitted liability to the Gardai. Some damage to my car, hard to estimate how much it will cost to fix but I'd estimate about €1k. I have comprehensive insurance with protected NCB that I paid extra for. I'm worried about the effect of claiming on future premiums. Does anyone have any advice? Should I get an estimate from a garage before contacting my insurance company?

Under MIBI rules, you MUST claim from your own insurers. They in turn will NOT affect your NCB, as long as the uninsured driver is fully responsible. Now it is possible that the uninsured driver will pay himself/herself.

if you do claim from your own insurers, then you can claim the policy excess; depreciation; car hire etc from MIBI
