Help with plumber who has bullish work methods?

Hi, we have our plumber, meant to be finishing up today but a few weeks back, he cut a 20inch sq hole in our bedroom wall, plasterboard, which we now have to get plasterboard for and plasterer in to patch it up and now he has rung me up to say he took tiles off the wall to fit the shower tray in and I say, well who is going to fix that, to which he chuckles back, your tiler!!! Can he actually go around our house cutting holes and taking tiles away, just to get into areas to get things to fit as he says? He is driving me insane, we have no spare cash to get these tradesmen back to fix his bullish ways? What do I do?
 
What, bust through a wall and rip tiles out on his second fix. No. Are these jobs not usually done before the second fix starts anyway. sorry, I am just p*ssed off with it all. Does this mean he takes no blame, we do and cough up the cash as usual while he acts like a bull in a china shop around our house??
 
A new build with the 2nd fix, final fix really, just putting in some shower trays, boiler and connected up our aga. He said he had to bust through the wall in bedroom as he couldn't access the back of the toilet, couldn't fit more like. and now he took our tiles off the wall to fit in a shower tray. I don't know but is all this necessary. surely he could have cut around the tiles to fit in shower tray and pull off that way??

I take it we pay for it. Doesn't matter, I knew the answer before I sent the thread anyway, it's the answer to everything with a self build, shut up and pay up.
 
I haven't fitted many shower trays but usually you want to get the lip of the show under the bottom row of tiles, so they'd have to come up. Maybe theres a better way of doing it, I dunno.

Toliet, dunno without seeing the situation. At the end of the day you should have discussed it beforehand, and he shouldn't have done anything destructive without asking you if it wasn't previously agreed.

You can't cut tiles in situ, just won't work. Also, the shower tray should always be in place before you tile.

Your tiler really shoud discuss with you whenever he needs to carry out any 'demolition' prior to carrying it out. Is there anyone on site he can discuss these issues with?

The shower tray should have been in long before the tiler started I.E it is put in on the 1st fix. The bath should also have been fitted before tiling.
 
Sounds to me like you should have got a contract price on the house. People seem to think that they can manage a self build themselves and save a fortune, with little or no time, knowledge or effort! I am doing a direct labour build at the moment and am delighted to have chosen this route....but I spend hours on end envolved with the project, between doing jobs myself to save money or to have the place ready for whatever trade is about to arrive, and making sure that each trade is not holding back the other!

Your tiler should have told you that the shower trays needed to go in before he started, or at least left the bottom row of tiles off until afterwards. Would defo be asking a few questions of his professionalism!

As for the toilet, can't really comment without seeing it, although does sound like the plumber is at fault here and did not have everything correct before slabbing. Tell him to drop you a call before embarking on anymore demolition work!
 
sounds like your plumber is taking the mick,the shower tray should have been in long before tiling,and how could he possibly need too cut a hile in the wall too get too the back of your toilet,as rmdt said it should never have been finished tiled before the tray was put in,you need too stop this now,you should not be paying for any of there mistakes,so have a word asap.
 
Sounds to me like the project manager messed up by getting trades in to do 1st, 2nd and final fixes out of sequence.
 
JUST geusstimate how much you think its going to cost to fix and stop it from his final bill. The fact that the shower tray should have been in first is now irrellivant , just make sure you stop enough money on him .By the way if you let him away with it some of the others may think your an easy touch.
 
It's not the plumber's fault if the tiler tiled before the fixtures were in. Sounds like the project manager screwed up alright. What's the plumber going to do if there are tiles and plasterboard in the way - you've got to get the sequence right. You'll have to get the tiler back in.
 
This seems like a job with poor project managment and you have a cowboy of a plumber. I would be very worried about the overall standard of work in this build.

I don't see why the plumber is necessarily a cowboy. Can you blame the plumber if the second fix went before he was ready for it?

The plumber should not have procced without bringing this to the attention of the person in charge of the project or the houes owner
 
What else was there to do? I assume the OP actually wants the house plumbed. Sure, the plumber should have mentioned it, but it had to be done anyway. That doesn't make him a cowboy.
