Hi all,
I have a friend who was in an accident last year and has had to guive up work due to the injury. She is seriously sturggling on the money she is getting at the moment and I'm just wondering is there anything that can be done. Unfortunatly she is making a claim so she cannot claim her medical fees back
Any help appreciated
Thanks

I don't know what payment she is receiving at the moment, or if she is claiming a social welfare payment, or if she has applied for a Medical Card, but if she is she could approach her local Community Welfare Officer & see if she would be eligible to apply for a once off payment.

Assuming that it was not an injury that occurred at work, depending on her PRSI contribution record & whether her GP considers that she will be unable to work for at least a year she should have a look at applying for either Disability Allowance http://www.welfare.ie/EN/Schemes/Il...isabilities/DisabilityAllowance/Pages/da.aspx which is a means tested payment, or Invalidity Pension http://www.welfare.ie/EN/Schemes/Pension/Pages/ip.aspx which, if the other criteria are met is paid based on your PRSI contribution record if applicable. Both these payments have the possibility of secondary benefits such as the Household Benefits Package, Free Travel Pass, Fuel Allowance, Living Alone Allowance, Medical Card.

Have a read through this
