My husband and I are one one plan 250 with VHI at 916 each annually.
We are 63 and 65 in good health. I want a good plan going forward with cover for
any joint replacements we might need etc.
Would appreciate any help on this. Would pay a bit extra. Would we be better on a corporate plan

Mrs Cockett,

Welcome to AAM. Quick question, when is your renewal date?

The following 2 plans are good alternative plans worth considering, with full cover for joint replacement surgery;

1. Laya Essential Health 300; price 932(increase applies from 1st July 2017) all public, private and Beacon hospital covered, excess max 300 x 2
per year for private admissions, day case excess 125 per visit. Limited day to day cover.
Note; joint replacement surgery is fully covered on this plan in private, public and Beacon hospital. This means no shortfall or excess applies to
this type of surgery.

2. Laya Simplicity plan; price 1191; all public, private and 3 hi-tech hospitals covered, excess max 100 x 2 per year, day case 50 per visit. Good day to day cover on this plan - the first 100 not allowed.
Note; joint replacement surgery is fully covered on this plan in public, private and 3 hi-tech hospitals. No excess or shortfall applies to this type of
surgery on this plan. The 3 hi-tech hospitals are located in Dublin - Mater Private, Blackrock Clinic and Beacon hospital.

The following link shows details of orthopaedic joint replacement cover with Laya.

Hope this helps.

Laya essential health 300 should fit the bill, Thank you Snowyb Now next question
Is it easy to make the change?
Will we have a waiting period?

The longest waiting time is 2 years which only applies to any pre-existing illnesses and conditions, in relation to any extra cover on the new plan.
1. So, the extra cover on Essential Health 300 is full cover for joint replacement surgery compared to 60% cover with One Plan 250.

If you already need a hip replacement, if you have surgery done in the next 2 years, 60% cover would apply in a private hospital, so a shortfall
would be payable for the 40% difference.
If you are diagnosed for joint replacement surgery after July and it is a new condition, full cover would apply straight away in a private hospital.

2. Also, cardiac and special procedures in the Hermitage and Galway Clinic are covered with Laya, no cover on One Plan 250.
3. No special procedures cover(joint replacement surgery) in the Beacon with VHI, full cover with Laya in the Beacon for this cover.

A 2 year wait would apply for pre-existing conditions for 2 + 3 above. Any new illnesses will be covered in 2 + 3 on Essential Health 300 straight away.

So, overall waiting time of 2 years only applies to any pre-existing illnesses, for any extra cover on the new plan.
Everything else would be covered straight away with no waiting attached.

Changing plans is straight forward, you can switch by telephone or online if it suits.

You have made that very clear Snowby. I will get on to Laya tomorrow as their essential health 300
seems like a much better plan for us.
We have no pre-existing conditions so should have no problems.

Thanks and Regards
