Health Expense claim - ultrasound

Hello all,

I am wondering if I can claim Health Expense tax back on an Ultrasound diagnostic procedure, that costed €130/-.

It was recommended by my GP (I have letter) and I attended privately for the ultrasound. Have payment receipt for ultrasound.

Could I claim tax back on it? And is it all online system now?

P.S. I have VHI basic health insurance also (PublicPlus Care Day-to-day) but not sure if I can claim anything?

You can claim medical expenses such as G.P' and Consultants fees, Xrays and scans. You can also claim tax back on prescription medicines. There is a list on the Revenue website. If you check your VHI policy it should say if Ultrasound is covered - sometimes it is in certain centres approved by the VHI.

Yes 20% except on nursing homes
