Have two jobs but leaving one

Hi,

I was put on 3 day week last year. Managed to get a second job. I split my tax credits 60 / 40 between the two positions. I am now being brought back to 5 day week mid month so have to give up the other job.

When is best to transfer my tax credits back to one employer to ensure that the 2 day week one gives me tax credit for working half the month with them and the (now) 5 day employer reflects that I am back working full time for the remaining half of the month or does it matter

ring revenue and tell them you want to reassign the tax credits. It should be absolutely no problem at all. Revenue will issue the full credits to your fulltime employer.

I'd then recommend you do a tax return for last year to ensure you can see if there is any tax refund or underpayment (hopefully not). You really should do a tax return every year to be sure you are claiming for everything possible but certainly any year you leave a job or work two jobs, a tax Balancing Statement would clarify that each employer was charging you corrrect tax. All to often unfortunately, employers make tax mistakes and at the end of the day, the onus is on the employee to be tax compliant.
