I can see many benefits for Ireland being part of the Euro currency. And we've got plenty of EU grants for development projects over the years. But the recent solo run on the bank guarantee scheme appears to send out a signal that we will thumb our nose at EU rules when it suits us. Last night's meeting indicates that in this instance, we can get away with it as well.
Does it weaken the EU as a whole when a relatively small member like Ireland can do a solo run (even if it was arguably a correct course of action) without sanction, not to mention the whole Lisbon treaty rejection which seems to have been overshadowed?
