Has anyone done a bookkeeping distance learning course?

I am interested in doing a bookkeeping course and cannot find one anywhere near to where I live so I thought I might do a distance learning course instead.

I know there are various companies offering this - I have got the details from a previous thread.

However, I was wondering if anyone here has done such a course, and if so, was it worthwhile or were there any pitfalls I should look out for?

Many thanks.

I'd done distance learning courses (not in book keeping) and in my experience theres a lot of bad ones that aren't much good. If I was doing one again I'd be inclined to go with Open University.

Hi there,

I did the IATI (Accounting Technician) course by correspondance. Found it fairly tough going . The course lasted two years and there were pre-exam weekend sessions that i found a godsend. At the time i was working for a Chartered Accountant so he was on hand to help with any queries.

Also I was young free & single back then (and still living at home) don't think I would manage it now with hubby, 2 kids and a dog to look after. Would love to do another course but would go down the route of nightclasses this time.

If you have someone on hand to give advice and help with queries and you have the time and discipline to study, then I wouldn't hesitate to give it a go.

Good Luck !

Many thanks for the replies.

I don't want to do the IATI course - far too involved and I have heard from others that it is a very tough course.

I will do another bit of research and see what I come up with but thank you both for your input!
