Halogen Spotlights

Hello

I am hoping someone might be able to help. We have spotlights in the kitchen. There are 8 of them, group as four (i.e. one switch for one set of 4 and another for the other set of 4). We keep having the bulbs blow. Since we moved in a year ago, we have gone through 10 or 12 bulbs. They are supposed to last 2000 hrs and are not the cheapest bulbs!

Any ideas as to what might be causing, what I think is, an excessive blow out rate? One unit seems to have stopped working altogether.

The house is new and I am thinking of asking the leccy back to resolve, but it may be too late as this only came to a head after the 1 year mark.

And you believe this ? Are they 12 volt or 220 volt bulbs. And where are they located. Are they near any kind of excessive vibration as the bulbs are very sensitive.
 
If the bulbs are recessed into the ceiling i know what the problem is. The place i'm living in had the same problem, the cause being that they overheat above the ceiling and melt the wires attached to them! (strange but true) We had to replace all of ours as they were sorrounded by wood panelling and can be a major fire risk!
 
If there 's insulation in the ceiling , what happens is the bulbs give off a lot of heat which is trapped by the insulation and usually blow the transformers. Solution is to take out bulbs and check the tranny's, as avontuur says check for heat damage also.GET AN ELECTRICIAN TO DO THIS! ! !
 
Sorry you also need to move or take out some of the insulation
