I want to make an AVC lump sum payment to offset tax paid in 2019. I know I can give a proportion of my salary based on age. When I check ros.ie it mentions gross pay and pay for USC, there is a difference of €2,500 between these figures. Where does this come from? I thought USC is payable on all income once over x amount (around 12,000 but it doesn't really matter here).
I figured it out, was my companies fault really. They overpaid me for a few months in 2019 which I had to repay, my gross salary wasn't reduced for the repayment, rather it was taken as a non taxable deduction, hence my gross was higher than pay for USC.
