Grocery deliveries

I 1st started using the Tesco Delivery service during Covid. This was invaluable at the time.

I then also used Dunnes when they had the automatic generation of the vouchers during the ordering process.

They have since stopped doing this but are now doing https://www.dunnesstoresgrocery.com/sm/delivery/rsid/445/over-65s
to match Tesco.

During Covid other supermarkets were doing this on a much smaller scale.

Has anyone encountered any of these services, incl Dunnes and Tesco, and what do you think of them?

We used Tesco during Covid and found it very good. I had half expected that the fresh produce selection wouldn't be great (near best before, etc) but it was fine. There were some restrictions on delivery slots for free delivery at that stage but I don't know if this still applies. We haven't used it since - or any of the others.
 
I used Tesco click and collect during Covid and it generally worked very well. Dates were good. Substitutions were well handled.

I used Supervalu delivery and click & collect a couple of times during Covid and there always seemed to be some important items missing and substitutions were not well handled. But I think Supervalu is very franchise specific, your mileage may vary as they say.

When you say Dunnes have stopped the automatic generation within that transaction - but if you do an order, do you still get a voucher for next shop as you would in store?
 
I find Tesco has the best operation - website has a lot more inventory and is a lot more user friendly than Dunnes. Tesco now offer same day delivery which is very handy. I tend to use to to get the same things every week so it is a quick process.

Yes you do, but they did have a great system where the vouchers were applied automatically when you ordered online.
You therefore never had to worry about having them or expiry dates.

I just did a check there and yeah while Tesco have slots available tomorrow, Dunnes don't, for my address anyway.

Most of my orders can be got in both, so the effective 20% discount vouchers from Dunnes swings it.

But much easier when you didn't have to worry about them at all!

You simply ordered online, anytime, and the moment your total hit €50 it came back to €40. €90 came back to €80 and €130 to €120.

I always felt it was a bit too good to last:(

I haven't done a check, but I feel like the Dunnes prices are that bit higher? I tend to buy things in Dunnes that I don't get in Tesco (fresh salads and other foods, more high end things) but for the few items I see the same the prices are not the same. So the voucher kind of levels it up rather than is a gain.
 
Both have a very good website, where it is really easy to compare prices.
And I too buy from both depending on product and price.

I wonder whether a lot of people me included, who discovered home deliveries during Covid, have stayed with them due to the sheer convenience ?
Certainly misgivings I had pre-covid re quality and reliability have been laid to rest.
 
I use Tesco . If you sign up for the monthly plan it’s€15 a month for as many deliveries as you need, once each delivery is over €50.

If you’re juggling kids and jobs, the convenience is well worth the money

The website and app are very easy to use, I’ve never had an issue with quality or freshness , it’s usually easy to get a slot , but Mondays book up a free days in advance and the delivery people are always friendly and helpful .

I shop around all the various chains for value and good products but the weekly
Tesco delivery of basics makes life a lot easier
 
Also you can get things delivered wherever - you can have several addresses. I send food to my folks for the times my kids are holidaying there, to holiday homes, even a couple of times as gifts to students in my circle who I knew would appreciate a week's groceries. Even considered trying to get the French versions set up so I can do a click and collect for first day of our usually self catering holiday.

Still trying to work out if Tesco would deliver to a campsite to save us hauling the food along with all the gear :)

Do Tesco do this??
T&Cs state Tesco reserves the right to request proof that you are associated with your delivery address(es) i.e., the address is a temporary or permanent home or work address, and not the address of a friend or relative.

Dunnes appear to have no such restrictions, so if you had free delivery you could do your neighbours and friends a favour, and maybe make a small charge for your efforts:D

Never had an issue and have done it recently. I guess it is not the house next door so there has never been a query!
