A big thanks to @DannyBoyD for his work on the whole UK pension thing. I followed it and am progressing.

I have some questions which I would appreciate help with: (I dont think they are specifically answered already but if they are I apologise)

I did the application and all paperwork. Have my payslips and my National Insurance number.

This week I got a call back from UK Pensions Office:

Here is what they said:

I have four qualifying years and need 6 more to reach the 10 to get pension.

I have 15 years to state pension age.

I have 19 gap years on record 2006/2007 - 2025/2025

I had to fill in and return form CF83 and I did that today ( hope it gets there in the week and bit to the date needed)

They will revert to me in a year and give me a table and gap years and purchase options.

My Questions:

From reading the posts here I think UK will tell me if I can buy Class 2 @ 190stg per year or Class 1 at 800stg per year - I have no choice in this?

Both classes will deliver same pension value to me?

I need to buy back 19 available gap years and going forward as they appear?

If I do this buy back it is still good value for money even if at the higher rate of Class 1 at 800 stg per year?

Im very underfunded with pension so if I had this and Irish pension it would really help me - is there anything I'm missing?

So I just wait for them to revert and I buy back what I can?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks @DannyBoyD - so once I'm in the system before end of March 2026 which I am, I am open to either class epending on UK decision so I sit back and wait.

Thanks a million.

Hi Winkie.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but if you posted your CF83 form last Monday then you will not be able to backpay 19 years. That deadline closed last April.

You should still be accepted to backpay 6 years, hopefully at class 2, then future pay 15 years at class 3. Hopefully you will also have 3 juvenile credit.

4+6+15+3= 28 years.

That's still a very sizeable bite of the apple.

Hey @700000
Thanks for that.
I actually did send in my CF83 form with application by deadline last March 2025 which is why they called me last week. They told me the years I needed etc as detailed in my post above. They then said to get the CF83 form in. I assumed they wanted it to progress to next steps so didnt ask why they didnt look at my first one. I have a copy of it and just copied it in to a new form and returned it. I must call them though. But I definitely did get it in in 2025 as otherwise they would not call me.
I will take anything they offer and buy back whatever I can. Thanks for calculation too. Hope I get an update from them if I call. They said the calculation from them will be next year.
