I have a new member of staff that I want to send on a suitable course.

The kind of course I want to send her on would typically be aimed at the company secretary / office manager of a small to medium size business, giving her a general overview and grounding in these areas.

Has anyone any experience of similar course or does anyone know where best to start my search.

Thanks in advance.

Re: What's a good course

Look into your local VEC -they have many evening courses and some might suit your requirements. Also they are very very good value.

You could send her out temping for a few weeks and let them train her :)

Why not get an experienced administrator into your office for a few weeks to show her the ropes....

I suggest that the company looks at what its objectives are. Then it should break down the companies objectives into objectives for the new employee. You should organise a day long induction cource for the new employee in which you give a company overview. You should have a private session with the employee in which you explain what the companies objectives are and what is expected of the employee.

Last but not least before sending any employee on a course you should do some sort of Training Needs Analysis which involves the employee.

Why not get an experienced administrator into your office for a few weeks to show her the ropes....

This is not a bad idea but "sitting by Nellie" means that if Nellie hasnt a clue then you new employee will not have a clue either!
