Good Mop???>

I urgently need a new mop, preferably one that can be used on tiles and laminate. Have a dog that sheds hair like a mad thing so something specifically good for that would be great.

I have had numerous fancy ones, with all types of things going for them and all i've left now is a variety of mop handles in the downstairs toilet!!!

You know those really old fshioned ones that you need to squeeze out in a bucket, anyone know what they are like, can you wash them easy enough.. As i'm on the subject of washing, what are peoples views on things like doing hot washes for manky dish clothes and eg the mop head and next p washing baby clothes.. should i be running an empty cycle in between??
 
I'll be watching this thread with interest as I too am on the lookout for a decent mop! (Especially one that isn't messy to store). I'm currently using one made by Leifheit, which has a capsule for holding water and floor-cleaner that can be sprayed onto the floor. The only problem is, I can't find the "proper" replacement cloths for it. I use disposable cloths instead, which sort of do the trick.

As for your other question: I wash the dogs' blankets in the washing machine on a regular basis. Before putting in the next load of washing, I clean out all the hair and other assorted debris that gets left behind, then pour some washing soda crystals into the drum and put the machine on to the hottest wash (with nothing in it) to clean it. It seems to work - my clothes haven't come out smelling like doggies!
 
Having tried various fancy mops over the years, I am back using a cloth and a deck scrubber. The cloth is a very old thin towel of which I have a few. I find that using my hands , I can squeeze it almost dry and use it safely on wood floors. I just use a tiny bit of washing up liquid in warm water. I put it under the deck scrub and because it is thin, it goes easily into awkward corners. It is also very easy to dry and doesn't get smelly . Old fashioned , I know but I think those fancy expensive mops are nowhere as good.
 
I too have been through a fair share of mops-- and am back to getting down on hands/ knees to do corners-- the rest as described above, with old cloth tied around a brush, and I wash the cloth in machine after and re-use.

Drying those sponge mops used to annoy me-- AND storing them, and trying to find replacement sponge-tops that fit the handle- they seem to re-design them every year so you have to buy the whole thing over again--

So good old-fahsioned rag and elbow grease is the best answer and a lot cheaper and more efficient.....
 
i'm using the cloth and brush method at the moment but as i'm preg with twins and getting increasing immobile i am looking for an easy way out... i'm thinking i'll chance the rag mop.. can't be dealing with bending down to squeeze out the towel every so often... on the same note,, any idea where i would get the things you can put on a wall to "click" brush and mop handles on to..
 
Home store and more have those click things for brush / mop handles.
They are in Mahon Point Retail Park and prob other locations around the country. Think they are around 10 - 12 euro.
 
I am delighted to see this thread as I thought I was the only person who was constantly buying new mops etc, I too have a collection in my tall press in my utility room.

My problem was that I have timber floors and porcelain tiles, (white in the hall and shiny black ones in the kitchen), everyone warned me that they'd be really hard to keep clean but I love them. My husband broke my last good mop that I loved, it really did the trick so I was on the hunt for a new one.........

I have recently discoved a fab mop in Dunnes Stores home section, it's €12 and comes with two refills, one wet one for cleaning and a dry cloth for drying/shinning - no detergent is required and it has a 360 degree head so really good at getting into the corners, you can wash the wet cloth in the machine too - I would def recommend but the only thing is that I didn't see replacement cloths available to buy seperatly but I did find it so good I bought a second one last night (as a reserve) for €12 you can't go wrong!!!!!!

We use a good heavy quality traditional scraggy head mop on a retail floor of 1600 sq ft each and every day - and you can't beat it.

Just get a decent bucket for squeezing out the water, decent floor cleaner and hot water.

A place that specialises in janitorial supplies would be best. Initial cost will be about €100, but the mop heads are only about €5 each thereafter.

This is one place I found, musgraves also stock them a bit cheaper if you have access
