Anybody know of any plant that will provide good groundcover? Its just for a small section that I have just sprayed and don't intend bothering with lawn or shrubs in it.

Sprayed with Pride spray. There had been very high grass in it so wanted to tidy it up a bit.

Vinca Minor, the varigated one is lovely and has a lovely blue flower all summer long and the varigated leaf gives lovely winter interest. Make sure Minor (low) not Major (tall).

Don't know how long you would have to wait to plant after spraying.

Do you know how high the Vinca Major grows?

Out of curiousity have any of you heard of Russian Vine, seemingly known as the mile a minute plant, it spreads so quickly? Its used to cover banks etc,

IMO Russian Vine (Fallopia baldschuanica) is totally inappropriate for all but the largest of gardens and even then I'd shy away - I speak from bitter experience here! It will cover things quickly but the problem is that it doesn't know when to stop! About the only positive thing I can say about it is that it doesn't seed itself everywhere, otherwise we'd be experiencing the second coming of the Triffids...

What about ground cover roses? Or planting a herb lawn e.g. thyme or chamomile? How about prostrate rosemary (rosemarinus officianalis 'Prostratus')? Or elephant's ears (bergenia cordifolia) if the area is shaded?

Had'nt thought of the ground cover roses which would be nice too. Never heard of the elephants ears. I must look it up.

If you go to the alpine section of your garden centre you will find a lot of carpet (low groundcover plants) Vinca minor, campanula, sedum, brunnera, aubretia, and some of the Euphorbias to name a few. Check that you don't buy anything too invasive - none of the above are.
Personally I hate elephant ears,- it always reminds me of badly kept public areas in some parks.

Thanks everybody for your suggestions. At least I've got a good choice of ideas now.
