Hi folks, I currently use a GoMo SIM in my 5G home broadband router for internet in the home which I am a tenant. I am currently paying €14.99 per month but noticed they are offering €12.99 Black Friday deals. Can I avail of this deal and then cancel my existing SIM or will I be unable to do so as an existing customer?

Don't see why not, both of them are 30 day rolling contracts so it should be just a simple swap over.

There is an activation fee (1 months charge) which you paid when joining. You will need to do this again but will get it back over 6 months and save €24 a year after that.
Edit:
So looked at this. I can order another SIM but will need 30 days notice to finish my current one which would be Dec 31st. I'm guessing I'd have a time limit to activate the new sim from the current so would be paying double for probably a month as well. Hmmm
I conclude it would be handy if you wanted more than one sim for a while maybe

I'm going to give it a try. I've actually also changed from my €7.99 plan with 48 network to this €12.99 plan with GoMo as the signal is much better where I live and work. So going forward I'll now have two SIM's with GoMo, one for my phone and the other for my 5G broadband router. They are supposed to have a fair usage policy but I've been using a GoMo SIM in my 5G broadband router for months and haven't noticed any obvious signs of the speeds being throttled thus far. I had also tried the Sky Mobile €15 deal as they claim to offer truly unlimited data but I found the performance wasn't great with my 5G router compared to GoMo.

I used mine (5g) for a while and found I was throttled at about 100G in a month. Their Fair usage states 80G but I managed a bit further. I only tried it for about 2 months though.

I guess that the Eir network is better than the 3 network in your area so? GoMo use Eir while 48 use 3.

Even on 48 with unlimited/no fair usage cap 4G/5G data there have been several anecdotal reports of throttling when "a lot" of data has been used in a month (often in a 4G/5G router). But nothing definitive from 48 on this...

Yes and checking the ComReg website seems to confirm that also. I stuck with 48 for the last five years as the €7.99 price was just such a good deal but I felt that despite the extra outlay I had to make a change in the end as I was starting to miss some important phone calls due to the poorer signal.

I must have just been lucky so far. Maybe I'll look to re-active that Sky Mobile SIM at some stage in the future as at least it was advertised as truly unlimited data. There doesn't seem to be any market whatsoever in the Republic for a Data-only SIM such as the likes of SMARTY in the UK. I had looked at the mobile broadband package from Eir but it was simply too expensive and keeps going up in price every year.

You can get 30 day mobile broadband 4g SIM from three. €29.99 per month. I have this since October. So far this month data use 360GB. No throttling so far.

I previously tried an unlimited data Lycamobile SIM. This was trottled back to snails pace after 100GB.

If you have a 5G device then you'll also benefit from 5G connectivity on the GoMo €12.99 package whereas 48's €7.99 plan only offered 4G so that might also help?

Clear Mobile are offering a Black Friday deal at €9.99 pm

48

8 quids pm.
The 48 €7.99 plan is a legacy one that isn't available to new users to sign up to. Also no 5G for those who need/prefer it and call/text/data allowances are capped. Although it suits my adult son fine. :)

I agree that it's plenty for many people, but it's a bit pointless posting about it in a Black Friday thread when it's no longer available for new customers to sign up to...
