Going part time - welfare entitlements?

Hi,
My boyfriend works for a family business and in the last few weeks has had his wages cut in half in order to keep the business above water. Does anyone know can he say that he is working part time now as he probably will only work 3 days a week due to lack of work and then claim SW for the other part of the week. Any help appreciated. Thanks.
 
Is he paying Class A rate of contribution? In other words, is he classifed as an ordinary employee in the family business? If so, he can claim Jobseeker's Benefit for the days he is unemployed. He'll need letter from employer to say his work has been reduced.
